82%

of non-fiction manuscripts are abandoned because authors lose the thread of their argument

6–8 drafts

average before authors feel satisfied with structure — most of that time is spent confused

Your words

Book Map uses your own API key — your manuscript never trains anyone's AI model

Everything a non-fiction author needs

From first import to final chapter, Book Map keeps you orientated in your own manuscript.

🗺️

Structure map

See every chapter and section at a glance. Drag to reorder. Understand your book's shape the moment you open it.

📥

Import your draft

Paste or upload a .txt file. Book Map detects chapters and sections automatically. No reformatting required.

📝

Chapter notes

Capture intent, questions, and reminders beside each chapter. Voice-to-text included for when ideas arrive mid-walk.

🤖

AI assistance panel

Chat with an AI that has read your chapter. Run beta reader, continuity, rewrite suggestions, and transition checks.

Diff review

AI rewrites arrive as side-by-side diffs. Edit the suggestion before accepting. Only applied when you say so.

🔑

Bring your own key

Connect your OpenAI API key. Pay Stripe for Book Map, pay OpenAI for AI tokens — no markup, no lock-in.

How it works

From blank canvas to a clear, structured manuscript.

1

Import or start fresh

Paste your existing draft or start from scratch. Book Map splits your work into chapters and sections automatically, ready to organise.

2

Map your structure

See the full shape of your book. Drag chapters and sections. Add a brief for each chapter — what it argues and what the reader should leave knowing.

3

Refine with AI

Open the AI panel on any chapter. Ask for a beta reader reaction, a continuity check, or specific rewrite suggestions. Review diffs and edit before applying.

4

Export and publish

Export your manuscript at any point. Book Map is a writing tool, not a prison — your words leave in the format you need.

"Writing a book is easy. Writing a book that holds together is the hard part. Book Map helps you see when it doesn't — before your readers do."

Frequently asked

On the Free and Author plans, yes — you supply your own key and pay OpenAI directly for tokens. This keeps your costs transparent and your data out of any shared model. The Pro plan includes hosted AI credits so you don't need to manage a key at all.
Your manuscript is stored on our servers (encrypted at rest) and is only sent to OpenAI when you explicitly trigger an AI action. We never use your text to train any model. You can export and delete your data at any time.
You'll be prompted to choose a plan. If you don't subscribe, your account moves to the Free tier (1 book, limited AI). Your other books and data are preserved for 30 days while you decide.
Yes. Cancel from your billing settings — no phone calls, no retention flows. You keep access until the end of your current billing period.
It's designed with non-fiction structure in mind — arguments, chapters, sections, briefs — but fiction authors have found it useful for structural editing too.
